Discover the stunning beauty of Italy on a self-guided multi-day trail run through the most beautiful spots in the Dolomites. Sleep in cozy hotels and run through the Dolomites past famous locations like Lago di Braies, Cadini de Misurina, and Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen).

Hiking in the Dolomites

We have mapped out four unique day routes that combine the highlights of the Dolomites with a cozy and comfortable hotel. Look forward to authentic mountain villages and local culinary delights set against a backdrop of breathtaking nature.

The Dolomites are the most spectacular mountain range in Italy. Each day, you'll hike a loop while admiring rugged cliffs, green valleys, and enchanting azure lakes.

To combine these highlights, we only use a shuttle once. This way, we can bring together both Lago di Braies and other highlights like Cadini di Misurina and the Tre Cime in one trip.

Unique stay in the Dolomites

During this trip, you'll stay in an authentic and charming hotel located by the shore of a lake, which will be our base for the entire week. Daily local breakfast and dinner are included. Here, you'll experience the warm, welcoming atmosphere of mountain life and get a unique insight into the local culture, from traditional dishes to stories from the mountains.

In the footsteps of Gudrun

I’m Gudrun Hespel (33), a personal trainer, running coach, and passionate trail runner. After adventures in the Sahara, Madeira, Mont Blanc, and Tenerife, I’m now taking you to one of my dream destinations: the Dolomites.

I’ve already helped over 100 runners with their first trail or the Marathon des Sables. This trip isn’t about speed; it’s about enjoying, being outdoors, and challenging yourself in nature. Are you ready to join the adventure?

The weekly schedule

There are countless trails in the Dolomites. Making a choice and planning a trip can be tricky. That's why we've mapped out a complete 6-day program and arranged for a cozy, centrally located hotel. This way, you'll hike past the most beautiful highlights in a relatively short period of 4 full walking days.

The total distance is about 110 km, but on 3 of the 4 days, there will be the option to take a shortcut. You can find the exact distances of the shortcuts below.

FAQs

You can always send us an email for more information about this trip; but below you’ll already find some answers to some frequently asked questions.

How is the trip organized?

The Dolomiti Trail is a self-guided trail run. This means you'll be running the route completely on your own. We make sure you have everything you need to make each day a success. Everything is arranged for you, so you don't have to think about anything. Just run and enjoy is all you need to do.

  • Our experienced ranger will give you a thorough briefing on the first day.
  • Then, you’ll start each day on the achievable and balanced route we've mapped out for you, all on your own.
  • In our handy app, you'll find an overview of all the routes and important info for each day. This should enable you to run the route entirely independently.
  • Your stay in a comfortable hotel with half board is also arranged for you.
  • Of course, the ranger is available to help you whenever needed. You can contact him with questions throughout the entire trip.
Where will we sleep?

The base for the week is a centrally located and comfortable hotel. The hotel is situated on the shore of Lago Di Misurina, so as soon as you step outside, you'll experience the beauty of the Dolomites.

In the hotel, you'll sleep in shared rooms, so you'll be sharing with other Trailrunners. If you prefer a bit more privacy, you can choose the option for a private double room. This can be booked either solo or as a duo. (However, this comes with an additional cost)

Your hotel stay includes breakfast and dinner.

What about food and water?

During the hike, you'll occasionally come across a mountain hut where you can grab a bite to eat or drink. At the hotel where you'll be staying, breakfast and dinner are included every evening.

We recommend bringing enough food for the daytime. Pack plenty of snacks like nuts and dried fruit to keep your energy up.

Additionally, make sure to bring your own water bottles. You should be able to carry at least 2 liters of water. You can always refill your bottles at the huts.

What's included in the base price?
  • Planned route and complete trip organization
  • 5 nights in a local hotel on the edge of Lago Di Misurina in a shared room
  • Half board
  • Experienced Dutch-speaking guide on-site for support
  • Comprehensive trail app with all the information about the trip
  • Local shuttle to Lago Di Braies on day 5
  • Local tourist tax
What should I bring?

You will receive a packing list in plenty of time, outlining all the necessary gear.

Can my dog come along on the trail?

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the hotel where you will be staying. Combined with the intensity of the trail, this makes it impossible to bring your dog along.

Give back to nature by offsetting your CO2 emissions.

The planet offers us so much beauty to admire, but if we want to continue enjoying it in the future, we need to protect it today. That's why we make extra efforts to reduce the impact of our trips, and you can contribute reliably to a climate project by Greentripper in the booking form, which balances the CO2 emissions of your transport. By contributing to their certified project “Wildlife Cambodia,” you help protect beautiful forests and the wildlife within them, support local communities, and reduce the CO2 emissions of your transport. If you choose to contribute to offsetting your transport emissions, Travelbase will also make an additional contribution to offset the emissions on-site. After your trip, you'll receive an official carbon credit certificate.

How many kilometers will I cover?

Throughout the week, you'll cover just over 110 km. The stages range between 25 and 31 km. The days are well distributed and balanced, ensuring a nice mix between the number of kilometers covered and the elevation gained.

Where can I park my car?

You can park your car near the hotel. The number of free parking spaces in the area is very limited. However, there is usually plenty of space in the paid parking lots nearby. You’ll pay about 14 euros per day to leave your car there.

What time do I need to be there on the first day?

You can arrive whenever you want. The ranger will be ready to welcome you with all the practical information from 10 AM. We recommend arriving around noon so you have enough time to warm up.

Is there guidance on-site?

Yes, an experienced Dutch-speaking ranger is on-site to provide support. Since this is a self-guided trail, they won't walk with you. However, they are available for assistance over the phone.

For whom?

Anyone between the ages of 16 and 65 with good fitness and a sense of adventure can hike this trail. The Dolomites are a physically challenging area. You'll be pushing your limits. This trip includes a solid amount of physical activity, so good health is a must. Since this trail is self-guided, it's a plus if you have some hiking experience.

Are you looking to try a multi-day hike for the first time, but have doubts about your physical ability?

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • How often have I been physically active in the past three months?
  • What types of physical activity do I regularly do and for how long?
  • Have I had any recent injuries that could affect my ability to enjoy this adventure?
  • Can I comfortably hike 15 kilometers with a backpack over hilly terrain?
  • Can I train in the coming months to prepare myself optimally for this adventure?

If your answers give you full confidence to embark on this adventure, then this trail is for you! You will receive a training schedule a week after booking to get you ready to tackle the path comfortably.
